Getting an address to a rural piece of land can be an important step in establishing a residence on your property.  When rural acreage is subdivided it doesn’t automatically come with an address.  It is distinguished from other tracts in the county by a Property ID number or a filing name.

The filing name along with other public information such as the owner, owner information, property size, latest deed transactions, and location can be found on the county appraisal district’s website.

Where do I get an address for my land in Texas?

To establish an address you’ll need contact your local or regional 911 program.  It’s the 911 system that creates addresses for rural land. Some 911 programs represent a number of counties while others are county specific 911 systems. I’ve included a comprehensive list of 911 programs in Texas below so you should be able to find the right place system for your county.

What information you need to get an address for land?

Be prepared to provide 3 or more of the following items for address requests:

• An established driveway is required
• GPS-enabled photo
• GPS coordinates of established driveway and structure location (How do I get GPS coordinates?) If your address is not found Click here to learn more.
• Adjacent addresses and their distance and direction in relation to the requested site address
• Property ID number or filing name (How do I find the property ID?)
• Street location of address request
• Distance and direction to at least one intersection
• Distance of site off main road

Most addressing authorities claim processing may take up to 10 business days.
